And some thought the novel "farfetched..."

Perhaps they did not read about a public meeting in Granbury, Texas, where a speaker by the name of Paul Brown advocated that women should be put to death if they have an abortion or use a "morning after" pill. See Texas Republicans Push Death Penalty for Women Who Get Abortions and IVF, by Carla Sinclare, Friday, March 29, 2024, cited below from Boingboing. Is this what we can expect if right-wing extremists acquire enforcible political power? Here is a link to the video where this man made these remarks:

Nearly every day, I read something that makes the scenarios presented in The Last Independence Day: Secession less fiction and more prescient. So, for my right-wing "friends," I ask: is this the sort of world in which we want to live? Does reverence for life end once a child is born, is that it? What about after? And what else is on your list of so-called "Christian" ideas for the rest of us? Clearly, the "eye-for-an-eye" approach to crime and punishment can lead to a rather dystopian world.

For the rest of us, are we prepared to let these right-wingers loose upon the world? Are we prepared to accept one particular expression of Christianity as the expression that defines us all?

Here is a link to the article I referenced above.

Every day, I review my feed for the next sampling of right-wing rhetoric that cleaves to the Christian nationalist point of view and fuels the grievance and rage aimed at innocent people who are, for the most part, minding their own business. I am confounded by it, and I lament the death of fundamental values and decency. For me, character, facts, and reason still matter.

Post Script. It wasn't just wackadoodle "BoingBoing" that featured the story, either. Here's a link to Newsweek: https://www.newsweek.com/texas-gop-meeting-death-penalty-women-abortions-1884950
